Overview

The Norwegian School of Winter Warfare (NSWW) is a national and international competency centre in matters concerning Cold Weather Operations. The national responsibility involves cold weather issues for the Norwegian Defence, e.g. clothing, nutrition, cold weather injuries, operations, avalanche forecasting and avalanche rescue. Within NATO, NSWW plays a part in Norway’s Cold Weather Operations Centre of Excellence (CWO COE), where NSWW is in close cooperation with the Joint National Headquarters. NSWW is also the Norwegian Army competency centre with regards to survival matters and arranges SERE instructor courses (Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Extraction) for national students and students from NATO and PfP nations.
